Summarize a non-fiction article by including the main idea/ideas with key details. Students exceed the standard by including more than one main idea with a strong quotation. 2. Analyze author's craft. Students identify how the author uses the following: strong action words details dialogue The author's goal is to help the readers envision the scene. 3. Identify the relationship between two things, ideas or events. This often relates to text structure- it is a cause/effect relationship or a problem/solution relationship. 4. Compare/contrast two texts. When comparing and contrasting texts in non-fiction, keep in mind text structure: compare/contrast problem/solution cause/effect description chronological Students support their ideas with strong evidence from the text as well as including academic language from the passage.
Homework Policy Homework will be assigned each evening. Spelling Routines- new lessons will be assigned each Monday. Students complete a page a night in Spelling workbook until Wednesday. Thursday they will study and Friday will be a test. Vocabulary Routines- new word in introduced Monday and word study template distributed. Monday complete numbers 3 and 4. Tuesday complete numbers 5 and 6 Wednesday number 7 Thursday number 8 Reading Log Students read for 30 minutes each evening. They should read a minimum of 25 pages in that time period. Please make sure they log onto the school section of the reading log. Please note- the reading log is a valuable tool for monitoring and assessing your child's reading progress. It is very important that the students put the time and effort into their reading logs so as to reach their fullest potential as readers. Reading Logs will be thoroughly evaluated during individual student conferences. I Ready- pages in IReady will also be assigned. Please look in planners and Google classroom. Reading Response- Please look in planners and Google classroom for when this is assigned. While students have the framework for homework routines, we ask that they do not skip ahead and complete the full week ahead of time.
